“Speaking of loud voices, I also want to welcome our new sports columnist, none...”
– From new Daily News editor Larry Platt’s memo to staffers today. Oh, boy, a sports column from the viewpoint of a politician and a fan! And such hilarious jokes about the super-rich eating quiche! I wonder what research and how many interviews Ed Rendell will do for his sports columns. Read...

Do you remember the “How our Iggles will get to the Super Game” commercial? Now that the Super Game is coming up and our Iggles are not in it, there’s a new version with another bad impression (Phillies manager Charlie Manuel) and another fake team name (Thrillies, which is absolutely awesome/ridiculous). Apparently it’s kosher to use World Series instead of some pseudonym,...

ESPN2 has been showing this Harlem Globetrotters game against the Washington Generals recently. They have quite a few innovations since I last saw them (on the roof of the Spectrum, in March 20091): A four-point shot2, a penalty box3, among other things. And now they also play football! For those of you who don’t have YouTube at work, let me summarize this video for you: The Globetrotters...

James Brown went to Harvard so he could one day do this interview with a spokesinfant for a financial services company. When Brown retires, I will remember him by this quote: “All right, E-Trade Baby, always a pleasure talking to you.”

This Baby Flamehead cover of the Action News theme is awesome; I’m sad I’m just learning of it now. From the YouTube description:Our cover of one of the best pop songs ever. We always got a response to this when we played it live. And we were stunned to realize, while on tour, that it was syndicated, and everyone in the country was familiar with it. (thx, Sara)

A discussion on the retirement of Phlex, Phantoms...
Dan: Phlex is retiring! "'Phlex will miss the Phantoms a great deal, but it’s time for him to move to a new chapter in his life,' said Phlex’s spokesman, Andrew Hill. Phlex will assist in the search for a new representative for the Phantoms organization.... All fans will be encouraged to sign a giant farewell card that will be presented to Phlex as a sendoff at his retirement party."
Molly: Ha! I loved Phlex, but the only real reason to go to Phantoms games was that they fight more in minor league hockey.
Dan: Ha, is that true?
Molly: That may be an assumption based on the movie Slap Shot.
