Molly texted me this morning about PA Harness Week, “harness racing’s fastest-paced half-hour.” Low production value sports television is one of my favorite things, so obviously I had already seen it. (I hate horses, and in horse racing you get to see little men whip them. I’ve also watched Let’s Go Racing.)
PA Harness Week is pretty great — Molly notes the show ends with the phrase “Reminding you to get high on harness,” the most effective anti-drug slogan I’ve ever heard — but I think I like the commercials more.
For example: The ad for Dover’s off-track betting parlors, above, which infer that going to the OTB will get you laid by two women. It has everything: Overacting, lowbrow double entendres, the promise of riches on long-shot bets. Also, are there really any gamblers who always bet the trifecta?
I hadn’t ever considered taking a girl to the OTB before this commercial. New date spot!
